[Security] Protect Your Wireless Network In 4 Steps!

Wireless hacking has never been easier these days , but in a lot of times this happens because of weak security; such as weak passwords , weak encryption and so...

Today i will show you how you can enhance your wireless network protection to level that make it almost (not 100% ) impossible to be hacked .

1. Change your default router password!

A lot of people not aware about this thing, they never change the default password for their router , what make it easier for hackers to get access to their router by using default passwords that -obviously- known to dumbest hacker ! There are a lot of sites that give you lists for default username and password for specific routers; such default password are :

Username : User Password : User
Username : Admin Password : Admin.....

How to change it ?! it never been easier .. first go to the internet explorer and write in address bar the IP address of your router ( in most cases it will be 192.168.1.1 ) ; if this didn't work with you , go and check your router manual.

You will prompt to enter username and password, if you don't know what is yours; you can check the router manual or check this list for default passwords .

Default Router Password (www.pcwintech.com)

After you successful enter to your router setting page , go and search for password option , and enter your old password and new one!

note: your router may be different than mine, but the concept is the same!

2. Change your security type and the wireless key!

Now we will change the wireless key and the security (encryption) type , in my router i went under Wireless> Wireless setting .

NEVER select WEP as your security type it is no longer secure at all , it can be hacked within 5 minutes!!!

Choose WPA-PSK as security type and enter a strong password in PSK paraphrase box (the longer the better, to make it more secure add numbers, capital letters, and characters to it)

3. Assign IP's as you need and reserve them to each PC!

DHCP option let you assign the exact number of IP's that you need in you network , for example i have 4 computers in my network , so i assign IP's from 192.168.1.10 - 192.168.1.13 , this give me IP's just for 4 PCs .

Next step is to reserve each IP to specific PC , go to address reservation option, in this step you have to know each MAC address for your PCs , click add new and enter the MAC address of the PC and the IP address (remember : you have to enter IP in the range of what you select in the last step).

note:this step alone is not effective in protecting your network !!

4. MAC address filtering.

This is very important step to protect your network , this means that any device that is not on the list will not able to access your network . (Mac address filter should be enabled first from firewall option and you have to choose the rule to enable only PCs on the list to access the network).

if you did these simple steps i guarantee that 99.99% of hackers will not get access to your network.

well , as i said each router has their own setting, but what is important is the concept,

for D-link routers you can check D-link web site and choose your router from the page and download the user manual
